Gertler, Mark

(1891 -1939)
   Born in Spitalfields, his family returned to Austria but settled in England in 1896. He was a member of the Whitechapel School in painting. He was part of the intellectual, social and artistic elite in London; he was the inspiration for Loerke in D. H. Lawrence's novel, Women in Love.
